TOP Link is part of Step into Sport at the STEP IN level and focuses on how schools can utilise 14-16 young leaders in school based volunteering. This year the national TOP Link Conferences consisted of 4 key challenges;
1. Young leaders plan, organise, run and evaluate a high quality multi skill or multi sport festival for primary-aged pupils in the summer term
2. Young leaders begin to take a role in the organisation of intra-school competition
3. Young leaders continue to volunteer in sport through school-based settings
4. Young leaders achieve the Bronze community volunteering award for 50 hours of volunteering (through the festival and other school-based settings).
The delivery mechanism of TOP Link changed significantly in 2009. Through application, 49 county based Sports Colleges were chosen, supported and empowered to deliver TOP Link. Each Sports College host supported their own STEP OUT leaders (post 16) to work alongside other young leaders, with links made or reinforced between Further Education (FE) and Higher Education Institutes (HEI) Throughout TOP Link in 2009, all partners actively modelled young people engagement and ensured that peer leadership in host schools, FE and HEI was embedded fully.
