During the February half term week the partnership ran another holiday camp at Kingsbury for Badminton players, Basketballers and Triathletes. Over 40 students attended from 10 different schools ranging in age from 10 to 16 receiving a total of 51 quality coaching hours.
The badminton players enjoyed 3 days of intense training with coaches from our local club at Burnt Oak Leisure Centre. These coaches are also currently working in two of our partnership schools on a weekly basis, building our club links for gifted Badminton players. 70% of those that attended the half term sessions said that the camp has encouraged them to start thinking about attending a local Badminton club. 90% said they enjoyed it so much they wanted even more days next time!
The Basketball sessions were run over two days in partnership with Brent Sports Development and Delivered by our Partnership Coach Kevin Chakaodza who is also working in a 6 of our partnership Schools on a regular basis. He was assisted by volunteers from our Partnership leadership academy who were able to gain valuable coaching experience and mentoring under Kevin.
6 Triathletes were treated to very intense training with Emma Beckinsale who runs the junior division for Triathlon London. The group were challenged both mentally and physically on Bikes and on the track dealing with everything from bright sunshine to wet mud. Emma awarded prizes at the end of the 3 days to Nicholas French from Preston Manor as the most consistent performer and to Mansa Femiola from Kingsbury for the biggest improvement.
With 90% of participants requesting more, there will certainly be more holiday camps and weekend satellite sessions throughout the rest of the academic year across a variety of different sports. This coming Easter holiday Wembley cricket club will be running a camp for aspiring cricketers at their facility for partnership students.
