Top- Link

Young People Leading the Way, Top Link 1 day conference.

On Wednesday the 24th of March, high schools from the Kingsbury School Sports Partnership attended the Top-Link Conference at The Harefield Academy.

The aim of the conference was to challenge schools to embed a diverse volunteering workforce to aid the support school sport and to get varied groups of young people to lead through school sport in more different roles.

The conference focused on helping the Top Link teams from each school to maintain school sport as a workforce. As a workforce, each school should aim to provide support in order to plan their future involvement in school-based volunteering and to support: festivals; competitions and events; development, leadership and volunteering skills; recruitment from within their peers to become involved as the school sport workforce and, overall, be role models for others.

Here’s what each school had to say about the day...

 St Gregory’s RC High School

‘Today we had a fun and enjoyable time. We learnt a lot of things including what kind of language we use when speaking to certain age groups and how to be confident so that we show off our exciting nature.’

 JFS

‘We really enjoyed learning how to lead other groups of people.  It was a great educational day, learning new leadership skills.’

 Alperton

‘We really enjoyed today because it was different and exciting.  We really enjoyed the activities and we would love to do it again.’

 Claremont

‘It helped me to improve my communication skills. It gave me new ideas of sports activities to use, I learnt the skills needed to organise an event and make sure it goes to plan and how to vary activities and change the way in which an activity is done. A Wonderful Day!!!’

 Preston Manor

‘Today was a fun and an exciting day; it involved a range of skills like being friendly.  Good communication and being the best leader you could! Personally I feel it helped me a lot in terms of being the best leader I can be.’

 Kingsbury

‘While we were at the Top-Link Conference we learnt how to become better leaders.  We learnt how to organise standard games into something more complex and also how beneficial it is to get feedback from the participants so that we can find out first hand how to improve it. Then with the new improvements, we were able to compare the two and better ourselves.  On this day we were put into groups from a mixture of different schools from different boroughs.  This game was an opportunity to work with new people and take ideas from people we were not familiar with at all.  We ourselves got to try out these activities and they were very creative and enjoyable and we will take these ideas back to our schools.  I hope that our schools will appreciate these ideas as much as we did, as we wish to implement them in our community as well as our school.  It was a very enjoyable and informative experience and we believe that it should be considered to do this annually.’

‘I enjoyed the day because we learned a lot on how to be a good leader and different ways this could help us in future life.’

We are really excited about the Top-Link work that’s going on and are confident that our young leaders will take what they have learned from this conference to get involved in a wide variety of volunteering opportunities with even more enthusiasm and motivation than before.
